What A Difference…

… A Month Makes.

I visit the same trails at IDNP many times through out the year. For many of these trails I have a tendency to take a few quick photograph from the same locations each time I visit. This gives me the opportunity to compare photos of the same location to see how the landscape evolves. The two photographs above are of the Little Calumet River taken about 5 weeds apart, from the same spot on the Heron Rookery trail. The first photo was taken in late March, before the onset of spring greenery. The second photo shows how the scene looked in Late April.

The second pair of photographs show the same location along the Miller Woods trail, also in the IDNP. The photo on the left was taken in early April just after a controlled burn was conducted in the area. On the right is what the land looked like in early May. The low intensity of the controlled burn fire clears out a lot of the flammable material on the forrest floor without affecting the roots of the native plants which had yet to begin blooming at that time.
